Federal Reserve data shows only 14% of workers over 60 fear AI job displacement, though many delay retirement due to financial needs.
Workers aged 60 and older are the least worried about artificial intelligence replacing their jobs, with just 14% expressing concern, according to Federal Reserve data. In contrast, 24% of workers aged 30 to 44 and 23% of those aged 18 to 29 fear AI-driven job loss.
The share of older workers in the U.S. labor force has grown significantly, rising from 15% in 2003 to 23% in 2023, per a Government Accountability Office report. Over half of older workers cited financial necessity or unpreparedness for retirement as reasons for continuing employment, extending their exposure to AI disruption.
Despite their lower concern, rapid AI advancements may outpace retirement timelines, potentially affecting older workers sooner than anticipated.
