World Liberty Financial secures preliminary approval for a national trust bank focused on stablecoin operations with over $4bn in circulation.
The US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has conditionally approved a national trust bank charter for World Liberty Trust Company, a crypto venture linked to former President Donald Trump’s family. The entity, WLTC, will handle stablecoin issuance, redemption, and digital asset custody for institutional clients once operational.
WLTC’s proposed stablecoin has already surpassed $4bn in circulation. The bank must meet additional regulatory conditions before commencing operations, including finalizing its board structure. The five-person board will include founders and independent members with financial and regulatory expertise.
The approval marks a step toward federal oversight for stablecoin-related activities, though the bank cannot launch until all OCC requirements are satisfied.
