Circle Internet Group secures federal trust bank status, bolstering USDC stablecoin operations amid rising regulatory clarity.

Circle Internet Group (CRCL) shares surged nearly 7% in premarket trading after the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency approved its application to form Circle National Trust Bank. The move grants the USDC (USDC-USD) stablecoin issuer federal trust powers, enhancing its regulatory standing in the digital asset sector.

The approval follows a period of heightened scrutiny of stablecoins by U.S. regulators. Circle’s federal charter aligns with broader efforts to integrate digital assets into the traditional banking framework, though prior attempts by crypto firms to secure similar approvals have faced delays or rejections.

Premarket gains reflect investor optimism about Circle’s expanded operational capabilities and reduced regulatory uncertainty for USDC, the second-largest stablecoin by market capitalization.
