The New Zealand Dollar fell 0.25% against the US Dollar to 0.5865 on Wednesday, extending losses amid broader market caution. US inflation data showed a modest easing, with the Consumer Price Index rising 3.4% year-over-year in July, matching expectations and offering little fresh impetus for Federal Reserve policy shifts.

Core inflation, excluding food and energy, increased 0.2% month-over-month and 2.5% annually, also aligning with forecasts. The US Dollar Index edged lower following the release, reflecting muted market reaction to data that failed to alter rate-cut expectations. Geopolitical tensions, including stalled ceasefire talks between the US and Iran, added to investor unease.

The Kiwi’s decline underscores its sensitivity to risk sentiment, as traders weigh domestic political uncertainty alongside global macroeconomic trends. The Fed’s next moves remain data-dependent, with inflation trends closely watched for signs of further cooling.
