Novo Nordisk’s recently launched Wegovy pill is gaining traction as a more effective alternative to Eli Lilly’s GLP-1 pill, despite Lilly’s lead in injectable weight-loss drugs like Mounjaro and Zepbound. Analysts suggest investors may be overvaluing Lilly’s growth while undervaluing Novo Nordisk’s potential in the expanding obesity treatment market.

In Q1 2026, Novo Nordisk’s obesity care revenue rose 22%, lagging behind Lilly’s 125% and 80% growth for Mounjaro and Zepbound, respectively. However, the Wegovy pill’s superior performance could narrow the gap, particularly as demand for oral treatments rises. Novo Nordisk’s early market entry with Wegovy was hampered by supply constraints, allowing generics to emerge.

The GLP-1 drug market remains a high-growth sector, with both companies vying for dominance. Novo Nordisk’s dividend appeal and pill innovation may attract investors seeking long-term exposure beyond Lilly’s current lead.
