Norges Bank kept its policy rate unchanged at 4.25% but indicated further tightening may still be needed to curb inflation. The decision reflects persistent price pressures above the central bank’s target, though upcoming economic data could alter its trajectory.

The bank’s June projections had signaled a potential year-end rate hike, but August inflation figures, due September 10, will be critical. Weaker economic fundamentals or a decline in oil prices could lead the bank to abandon its hawkish guidance.

Commerzbank analysts expect the Norwegian krone to weaken, with EUR/NOK rising above 11 by year-end if data softens or oil prices fall. The krone’s vulnerability stems from policy caution and external risks, including Middle East developments.
