Cost cuts and stronger US sales drive Nissan’s return to profitability after a year-earlier loss of $737m.

Nissan reported a first-quarter operating profit of $496.4m, reversing a year-ago loss of $737m, as its Re:Nissan turnaround plan delivered $382m in cost savings. Revenue rose to $18.8bn on global sales of 701,000 units, up 9.5% from the prior-year period.

The company’s operating margin improved to 2.6% from negative 2.9% a year earlier, while net income swung to a $24m profit from a $737m loss. Nissan cited manufacturing efficiencies, favorable currency movements, and one-off gains from US tariff adjustments as key drivers.

US sales climbed nearly 10% year-on-year, marking 16 consecutive months of retail growth under its localized production strategy. Nissan maintained its full-year FY26 targets despite macroeconomic uncertainties.
