NextEra Energy (NEE) is positioning itself to capitalize on surging electricity demand driven by AI and data centers. The company’s regulated utility, Florida Power & Light, increased its large-load demand forecast to 8 gigawatts by 2032, up from 6 gigawatts earlier this year.

The shift reflects broader industry trends, as hyperscale data centers can consume over 1 gigawatt each—equivalent to the output of a single nuclear reactor. While nuclear power has seen renewed interest, NextEra’s diversified energy portfolio allows it to benefit from rising demand regardless of the power source.

Investors are eyeing NextEra as a lower-risk alternative to uranium miners and reactor developers, which have seen volatility amid the nuclear resurgence. The company’s regulated utility model provides stability while still offering exposure to the energy transition.
