Researchers propose a zero-knowledge proof system to protect Bitcoin from quantum computing threats without address changes.

A Wyoming-based blockchain security firm has introduced ZKPoSP, a post-quantum cryptographic system designed to safeguard Bitcoin and other blockchain wallets from quantum attacks. The method replaces traditional elliptic curve signatures with zero-knowledge proofs while maintaining compatibility with existing hierarchical deterministic wallets and addresses.

The proposal addresses growing concerns over quantum computing advancements, such as Google’s Willow processor, which could potentially break current encryption standards. Researchers warn that Shor’s algorithm, run on a quantum computer, could expose private keys from public keys, jeopardizing all active wallets using elliptic-curve cryptography.

ZKPoSP builds on prior post-quantum ownership research and eliminates the need for users to migrate funds or alter wallet infrastructure. The system targets standards like BIP32, BIP44, and SLIP-10, which underpin most wallet management frameworks today.
