Japanese automaker commits $473.23m to electric vehicle technology and manufacturing in Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy.
Mitsubishi Motors will invest $473.23m in Thailand by 2030 to expand electric vehicle (EV) production and technology. The funding supports manufacturing and exporting pickup trucks and an electric variant of its Pajero SUV, with Thailand serving as the regional hub.
Thailand, Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy, hosts major automakers like Toyota, Honda, and BYD. The country’s export-focused infrastructure and policy incentives for EVs have attracted significant investment, including a recent $450m commitment from Isuzu in April.
Japanese automakers face growing competition from Chinese EV brands in the region. Mitsubishi’s investment follows its announcement to reintroduce the Pajero nameplate globally in 2026 after a five-year hiatus.
