Microsoft abandons $3 billion Oracle data center deal

Microsoft has withdrawn from a deal to lease an Oracle data center, reportedly worth over $3 billion, due to security concerns.

The tech giant had planned to shift some of its workload to Oracle’s cloud infrastructure, but security requirements for government-related workloads were a major issue.

Oracle was unwilling to implement additional security frameworks for managing US government data, and its public cloud lacks the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program certification.

This has forced Microsoft to seek deals with other cloud providers to prioritize its own cloud computing resources for customers, including those related to AI on NASDAQ-listed platforms.
