Micron Technology shares climbed 7% following its announcement of a $3 billion investment to strengthen the U.S. semiconductor supply chain. The funding includes $500 million in strategic financing for GlobalWafers to expand its 300mm wafer facility in Texas, alongside a 10-year supply agreement for Micron.

The move follows rising demand for advanced memory and storage solutions, particularly for artificial intelligence applications. Micron’s prior investments focused on expanding domestic production capacity, aligning with broader industry efforts to reduce supply chain vulnerabilities.

Shares of semiconductor suppliers also rose on the news, reflecting optimism about long-term supply chain resilience and collaboration on next-generation wafer technologies.
