Investors react to SK Hynix’s Nasdaq debut and long-term supply expansion plans, pressuring Micron’s stock amid pricing concerns.
Micron (NASDAQ: MU) shares declined 3.9% by mid-morning trading, tracking a reversal in SK Hynix (NASDAQ: SKHY) stock following its Nasdaq debut. SK Hynix surged 14% initially before retreating over 6%, dragging Micron lower as investors reassessed the memory chip market outlook.
SK Hynix, a dominant player in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and DRAM, raised $26.5 billion in its Nasdaq listing. The company’s CEO projected a severe supply shortage through 2030, though its plans to double DRAM production by then could eventually ease pricing pressure. Micron currently benefits from high chip prices but faces competition from SK Hynix’s market influence.
The sell-off reflects concerns over long-term supply dynamics and pricing power shifts in the memory chip sector.
