Mark Zuckerberg’s comments on compute premiums validate Iren’s approach to avoiding large, long-term hyperscaler deals amid rising demand.

Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg endorsed Iren’s conservative data center strategy during the company’s second-quarter earnings call. He noted strong demand for compute capacity, with offers at significant premiums over acquisition costs, aligning with Iren’s decision to avoid aggressive long-term deals with hyperscalers like Microsoft and Amazon.

Iren, listed on NASDAQ as IREN, has lagged peers like Nebius, Hut 8, and Terawulf in securing high-profile contracts. While competitors signed lucrative agreements, Iren’s sole major deal remains a November partnership with Microsoft, which analysts viewed as less transformative.

Zuckerberg’s remarks shift the narrative, suggesting Iren’s patience may position it favorably as compute prices rise. Meta’s own ambitions to become a neocloud provider further underscore the tightening supply-demand imbalance in the sector.
