The €1bn expansion supports Mercedes-Benz’s shift to electric vehicles, adding battery assembly and boosting production capacity.
Mercedes-Benz has completed a €1bn ($1.14bn) expansion of its Kecskemét plant in Hungary, doubling its size to 440 hectares. The upgrade is part of the company’s Business Plan 2022–2026, aimed at enhancing competitiveness and efficiency in its global production network.
The expanded facility now includes new bodywork and assembly halls, a press shop, a paint shop, and a dedicated battery assembly line. It will produce the electric C-Class, marking the first battery-electric core model manufactured at the site. The plant also adopts a “local-for-local” approach for component and battery production.
The investment strengthens Mercedes-Benz’s production flexibility and resilience, aligning with its focus on digitalization, sustainability, and quality. The Kecskemét plant is now one of the automaker’s largest globally.
