McDonald’s reports softer U.S. sales growth amid declining guest counts, offset by higher average checks and global gains.
McDonald’s second-quarter U.S. same-store sales rose 0.8%, decelerating from 2.5% growth in the year-ago period. The slowdown reflects a drop in domestic guest counts, partially offset by higher average check sizes and a favorable product mix.
Global comparable sales increased 1.3%, with international operated markets up 1.5% and developmental licensed markets advancing 1.9%. Total revenue reached $7.1 billion, a 4% year-over-year rise, while net income climbed to $2.36 billion, or $3.32 per share.
The company also announced Skye Anderson as the new U.S. president, replacing Joe Erlinger after a six-year tenure. Adjusted earnings per share were $3.38, excluding restructuring charges.
