LS Power has agreed to purchase the Brazos Valley Energy Center, a 606MW natural gas-fired combined-cycle facility in Texas, from Constellation for $860m. The sale fulfills regulatory conditions tied to Constellation’s prior acquisition of Calpine, with the transaction expected to close by year-end pending approvals.
The facility, located in the ERCOT power market near Houston, was previously known as the Jack Fusco Energy Center. Constellation stated this divestiture completes its mandated asset sales under the regulatory agreement. The deal reflects growing demand for reliable power in Texas amid rapid economic expansion.
LS Power CEO Paul Segal highlighted the acquisition as a strategic move to meet Texas’ rising electricity needs, citing natural gas as a cost-effective solution for around-the-clock capacity. The transaction underscores LS Power’s focus on optimizing existing assets to support the state’s energy growth.
