Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) has proposed a $5.5 billion settlement to resolve approximately 76,000 lawsuits alleging its talc-based products caused ovarian cancer. The agreement, if finalized, would address one of the company’s largest legal liabilities but requires 95% claimant participation and excludes future lawsuits.

The litigation has persisted for over a decade, creating uncertainty around court verdicts and legal costs. JNJ ended Q2 2026 with $21 billion in cash and marketable securities and is on track to exceed $100 billion in annual revenue for the first time.

The settlement’s final cost remains uncertain, and investors are weighing the benefits of reduced legal risk against potential additional expenses.
