Japan’s largest power generator, JERA, has formed JERA Global Energy Solutions (JERA GES), a Singapore-based subsidiary focused on long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply, upstream gas, and lower-carbon fuels. The new unit will oversee portfolio strategy, project development, and market expansion for LNG, ammonia, and hydrogen, aiming to strengthen energy security amid volatile global markets.

JERA GES will operate alongside JERA Global Markets (JERAGM), which handles short-term trading and optimization. The restructuring separates long-term supply development from trading activities, with a phased transition to maintain business continuity. Irtiza H. Sayyed was named CEO of JERA GES, while Ryosuke Tsugaru will align the subsidiary with JERA’s broader decarbonization strategy.

The move reflects a broader trend among major LNG buyers to enhance portfolio flexibility and secure long-term supply chains. JERA GES will gradually assume control of existing LNG and lower-carbon fuel operations, supporting the company’s shift toward cleaner energy sources.
