Japan has matched its July oil import volumes to year-ago levels despite disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, according to procurement data. The country has increased shipments from producers less reliant on the critical chokepoint for delivery, offsetting risks from the Middle East crisis.

Before the conflict, Japan sourced 95% of its oil from the Middle East, primarily Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, and Qatar. The shift to alternative suppliers has helped stabilize supply chains amid heightened geopolitical tensions.

No immediate market reaction was reported, but the move signals reduced vulnerability to regional supply shocks.
