Japan’s finance minister emphasizes transparency with bond markets as fiscal policy shifts toward growth-oriented measures.
Japan Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama underscored the need for clear communication with Japanese Government Bond (JGB) markets before compiling the national budget. Katayama noted that prior administrations had not adequately engaged with markets during this process, signaling a shift in approach as the government prepares to adjust fiscal policy.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi earlier indicated plans to move away from excessive fiscal tightening to stimulate growth, though she ruled out reckless spending. The government’s economic blueprint has reportedly gained market acceptance, reflecting confidence in its proactive fiscal stance.
Katayama also addressed the yen’s weakness, acknowledging both benefits and drawbacks but declined to comment on potential intervention. The government maintains readiness to act on forex markets as needed, aligning with the U.S. stance on currency stability.
