Tehran confirms oil shipments persist despite Washington revoking a 60-day exemption from sanctions last week.
Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad stated Tuesday that the country’s oil exports continue without disruption following the US decision to cancel a 60-day waiver on sanctions. The move ends a temporary exemption that had allowed limited Iranian oil sales despite broader restrictions.
Prior to the waiver’s termination, Iran exported an estimated 1.5 million barrels per day, down from 2.5 million before the US reimposed sanctions in 2018. Analysts had expected a sharp drop in shipments, though Tehran has previously circumvented restrictions via indirect routes and ship-to-ship transfers.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil flows, remains a focal point amid heightened tensions and a reinstated US naval blockade in the region.
