Tehran confirms no negotiations with Washington over the critical waterway, citing ongoing US aggression as a barrier to reopening.
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson stated there are currently no discussions with the US regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for nearly 20% of global oil supplies. The remarks, issued during European trading hours, underscore Tehran’s stance amid heightened tensions.
Instead, Iran is negotiating with Oman to establish a temporary safe passage through the strait. However, officials emphasized that an agreement with Oman alone will not suffice to reopen the waterway while US sanctions and perceived aggression persist.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a flashpoint for energy markets, with disruptions potentially impacting global crude flows and pricing. No immediate market reaction was reported following the announcement.
