The IPO market has contracted sharply since 2021, when 743 companies listed on Nasdaq and raised nearly $500 billion. That year marked a record for new listings, with the New York Stock Exchange adding over $1 trillion in market capitalization. High-profile debuts like Coinbase and Rivian spanned multiple sectors, reflecting strong investor appetite.

In 2026, however, consumer IPOs remain scarce. Jersey Mike’s and Reformation debuted this week but struggled, with shares closing down nearly 6% and flat, respectively. Renaissance data shows only a handful of consumer companies have gone public this year, a fraction of 2021’s volume.

The shift reflects prolonged private funding access and cautious investor sentiment, despite isolated successes like SpaceX’s blockbuster offering.
