Quantum computing firm IonQ completes acquisition of semiconductor foundry SkyWater, creating a vertically integrated quantum platform company.
IonQ has completed its $1.8bn acquisition of SkyWater Technology, a US-based semiconductor foundry, following regulatory clearance from the Federal Trade Commission. The deal, announced in January 2026, merges IonQ’s quantum computing capabilities with SkyWater’s advanced semiconductor manufacturing.
SkyWater shareholders received $15.00 in cash and 0.4883 IonQ shares per share. The combined entity will operate as a subsidiary under the SkyWater name, maintaining facilities in Minnesota, Florida, and Texas while expanding into quantum sensors, AI, and IoT applications.
SkyWater, one of the largest US-based semiconductor foundries, will continue serving aerospace, defense, and commercial markets. IonQ, listed on the NYSE, aims to leverage SkyWater’s infrastructure to accelerate quantum technology development.
