Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) fell 3.5% mid-Wednesday after Northland Capital downgraded the stock to “market perform”, citing valuation concerns amid a potential slowdown in AI-driven demand. The downgrade reflects broader worries about the financial health of hyperscalers, which have accumulated $260 billion in debt and halted stock buybacks due to cash constraints.

The firm also downgraded two other semiconductor stocks, signaling industry-wide caution. Intel’s data center business, a key AI growth driver, is projected to expand 40% by 2027, but its stock has surged over 500% in the past year, leaving it exposed to a pullback.

Semiconductor peers traded higher on the day, underscoring Intel’s isolated weakness following the downgrade.
