The Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) and Jakarta equities fell after Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo resigned two years before his term ends, citing unspecified personal reasons. The unexpected exit has raised concerns about political influence over monetary policy, particularly as the central bank’s mandate was recently expanded to support growth.

Warjiyo’s departure follows broader scrutiny of BI’s independence, including parliamentary oversight and the appointment of President Prabowo’s nephew to the central bank’s board. Despite these risks, analysts note that Indonesia’s growth-inflation dynamics remain supportive, with a negligible current account deficit, manageable external debt, and ample FX reserves.

IDR is also seen as significantly undervalued, which may limit further downside. However, the resignation underscores lingering uncertainties about policy continuity and institutional credibility.
