Sarvam, an India-based artificial intelligence company, has raised $234m in the first close of its $300m Series B funding round, elevating its valuation to $1.5bn. The round was led by HCLTech, which committed $150m, with additional participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, Khosla Ventures, and Peak XV Partners.

The funds will be allocated toward research and development, focusing on advanced AI models for agentic functions, coding, and cybersecurity. Sarvam also plans to expand its computing infrastructure to support enterprise, developer, and government deployments. The company has previously developed foundational language and vision models tailored for the Indian market.

HCLTech CEO C Vijayakumar stated the investment aims to build a globally competitive AI ecosystem, combining Sarvam’s research with HCLTech’s global reach to deliver secure and scalable AI solutions.
