Former Merrill Lynch CEO E. Stanley O’Neal takes over as chair of Hut 8, succeeding William Tai amid the company’s shift to AI data centers.
Hut 8, a Bitcoin miner transitioning to AI and high-performance computing data centers, has appointed E. Stanley O’Neal as its new board chair. The appointment is effective immediately, the company said. O’Neal, who joined Hut 8’s board as an independent director in November 2023, previously led Merrill Lynch as CEO from 2002 to 2007.
O’Neal succeeds William Tai, who remains on the board. Shareholders approved O’Neal’s appointment at Hut 8’s recent annual meeting, where eight directors were elected. The company has seen its stock surge 544% over the past year, trading at $118.86 per share, driven by data center deals with firms like Nvidia and Alphabet.
