The $350m purchase secures 460MW of Siemens equipment amid tight turbine supply and long lead times for new units.
Hallador Energy has agreed to buy 460MW of Siemens gas turbines, generators, and related equipment from Energy World Corporation for $350m, or $760 per kilowatt. The deal includes an additional $100m for transportation, refurbishment, and delivery, bringing total costs to $450m for the Merom project.
The acquisition represents over half of the projected expenses for Hallador’s proposed natural gas-fired combustion turbine project. The company is advancing through the MISO Expedited Resource Addition Study, with a final investment decision expected after September 2026.
Hallador aims to begin revenue generation between late 2028 and mid-2029, following turbine restoration. The move addresses supply constraints in the turbine market, where new equipment lead times have extended significantly.
