Japanese game firm Gumi and SBI Financial Services debut a $18.3 million fund to invest in major cryptocurrencies ahead of potential ETF approvals.
Japanese game developer Gumi and SBI Financial Services will launch a 3 billion yen ($18.3 million) crypto asset fund on Saturday. The fund, operated by SBI Crypto Fund, will focus on Bitcoin and major altcoins, employing staking and hedging strategies to bridge corporate Japan with crypto markets.
Gumi’s crypto holdings surged to 14.13 billion yen as of April 30, 2026, nearly doubling from 7.58 billion yen a year earlier. The fund aims to establish an operational track record before Japan potentially lifts its ban on crypto exchange-traded funds.
The venture is backed by Daiwa Securities Group and other investors, with SBI Financial Services holding a 51% stake and Gumi’s gC Labs owning 49%. The move follows Gumi’s expanding crypto business, including XRP holdings and portfolio management services.
