Gold prices fell by $50 while oil surged in volatile trading, movements typically linked to geopolitical tensions in the Gulf. No major news has emerged to explain the shifts, suggesting market dynamics are driving the activity rather than fundamental developments.

The drop in gold follows a recent rally to near three-month highs, fueled by expectations of currency debasement. Meanwhile, oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz remain uninterrupted, according to TotalEnergies’ CEO. Analysts at Citi raised their near-term gold target to $4,800, while JPMorgan flagged potential for $5k.

Asian equities opened lower, with South Korea and Japan both declining. The PBOC set the USD/CNY reference rate at 6.7852, stronger than the Reuters estimate of 6.7219, signaling continued yuan support.
