Global on-chain taxable crypto activity reached at least $457 billion in 2025, according to new estimates. The figure includes realized gains, mining income, staking, lending, and crypto payments across centralized and decentralized exchanges.

The United States led the activity with $112.6 billion, while the total represents a conservative lower bound due to off-chain transactions not captured on-chain. Only about 14% of global on-chain taxable activity falls under the OECD’s Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework, leaving most decentralized and self-custody transactions outside regulatory coverage.

The data highlights the growing scale of crypto-related taxable events amid limited regulatory visibility, particularly in decentralized finance and peer-to-peer transactions.
