Germany’s production of vegetarian and vegan meat alternatives fell to 124,900 tonnes in 2025, a 1.2% drop from 2024, ending a multi-year growth streak. The value of output also slipped 2.2% year-on-year to €632.6m, according to official data.

Despite the decline, the sector remains 107% larger than in 2019, when output stood at 60,400 tonnes. However, conventional meat production continues to dominate, with a value of €45.2bn in 2025—over 70 times that of meat alternatives.

Per-capita meat consumption in Germany rose slightly to 54.9kg in 2025, up from 53.5kg in 2024, signaling persistent demand for traditional meat products.
