Germany’s LNG imports rose to 12% of total gas supply in H1, up from 10% a year earlier, amid reduced Middle East deliveries.
Germany’s reliance on US liquefied natural gas increased in the first half of 2024, with LNG accounting for 12% of total gas supply, up from 10% a year earlier. The shift occurred despite disruptions in Middle East supply due to geopolitical tensions, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Data from the Federal Network Agency showed that LNG imports from North Sea and Baltic Sea ports rose, compensating for reduced deliveries from Qatar and the UAE. The agency noted that US supply remained stable even as regional conflicts escalated, supporting Europe’s largest economy.
The change reflects Germany’s efforts to diversify energy sources amid ongoing energy security concerns.
