More than half of Gen Z adults aged 18 to 29 allocated money earmarked for retirement savings to sports betting over the past year. The survey revealed 14% engage in this behavior multiple times monthly, raising concerns about long-term financial planning.

The trend contrasts sharply with older generations, with only 14% of millennials, 6% of Gen X, and 1% of baby boomers treating sports betting as part of their financial strategy. About 26% of Gen Z respondents view it as a deliberate, ongoing wealth-building approach, while 30% avoid it entirely.

Financial experts warn that sports betting platforms are not designed for wealth accumulation, emphasizing the risks of conflating speculative activities with retirement planning. The data highlights a growing challenge in educating young investors on separating short-term thrills from long-term financial security.
