The British Pound climbs against the Japanese Yen amid sustained pressure on JPY despite BoJ rate hike expectations and intervention threats.
The GBP/JPY pair has recovered to trade above 215.00, extending a three-week rally as the Japanese Yen struggles to sustain gains. The Yen’s brief rebound during Friday’s Asian session faded, with the pair rising from session lows of 214.59 to 215.04 at publication time.
Despite repeated warnings from Japanese authorities about excessive volatility and growing speculation of a Bank of Japan rate hike, the Yen remains under pressure. Finance Minister Satsuki Takayama reiterated Tokyo’s readiness for decisive action, but interventions have had limited impact. Concerns over low Japanese Government Bond yields and the economy’s vulnerability to high oil prices continue to weigh on the currency.
Technical indicators suggest mild bullish momentum, with the Relative Strength Index nearing 60 on the 4-hour chart. The pair consolidates above an ascending trendline from mid-May lows, reinforcing its upward bias.
