Crypto firms secure large Texas sites for AI and Bitcoin mining, adding to the state’s growing digital infrastructure investments.
Galaxy Digital and MARA Holdings announced separate land acquisitions in Texas to expand AI and high-performance computing (HPC) data centers. Galaxy acquired a 500-acre site in McGregor, targeting 74 megawatts of initial power capacity, while MARA secured a 1,200-acre powered site in Matagorda County with up to 2 gigawatts of capacity for AI, HPC, and Bitcoin mining.
The moves follow Meta Platforms’ disclosure of a $14 billion AI data center campus in El Paso, reflecting Texas’s appeal for large-scale infrastructure projects. The state’s low electricity costs, abundant power market, and available land have attracted significant investments in digital and crypto infrastructure.
Both companies emphasized the strategic importance of Texas for scaling operations amid rising demand for power-intensive computing and mining facilities.
