Final-round offers for Athora’s German life insurance unit may emerge soon amid strategic review of the €3.5bn closed-book business.
Frankfurter Leben, a life insurance run-off specialist controlled by Fosun International, is preparing a bid for Athora Holding’s German unit. The division manages €3.5bn in assets, including traditional life insurance, unit-linked products, and pension policies for 140,000 customers. Asset manager IKAV is also competing for the business, with final-round offers expected shortly, though no deal is guaranteed.
Athora, backed by Apollo Global Management, has been evaluating options for its German operation after struggling to expand the business. The unit employs over 100 staff and oversees a closed-book portfolio. Athora announced plans in March to relocate its headquarters from Bermuda to the UK by late 2027, pending regulatory approval.
Athora, Apollo, and Frankfurter Leben declined to comment, while IKAV and Fosun did not respond to requests for comment.
