Fidelity Investments faces a July 27, 2026, deadline for customers to claim up to $5,000 each from a $2.5 million settlement tied to an August 2024 data breach. The breach exposed personal data, including Social Security numbers and financial account details, of 77,099 individuals.
The incident occurred between August 17 and 19, 2024, when a cyberattack accessed customer data files. Fidelity detected suspicious activity but did not notify affected customers until early October 2024. An additional 86,000 individuals may also be eligible despite not receiving notifications due to state-law exemptions.
Fidelity denied wrongdoing but agreed to settle the class-action lawsuit. The settlement covers those impacted by the breach, including joint account holders whose financial data was compromised.
