The expansion supports FedEx’s strategy to integrate air and road networks for premium international freight growth in Europe.
FedEx Corp. is investing $54 million to expand its truck terminal in Duiven, Netherlands, increasing palletized freight handling capacity by over 50% and adding 65 dock doors. The project aims to enhance service reliability and direct delivery capabilities for European logistics customers.
The expansion aligns with FedEx’s recent reorganization of its air network into express parcel and deferred freight segments. This shift allows for a more efficient truck-fly-truck model, optimizing aircraft density and ground sorting efficiency for heavy freight that does not require maximum speed.
The move is part of FedEx’s broader focus on growing its premium parcel and freight market in Europe, integrating its less-than-truckload network with international air cargo operations.
