Xbox CEO Asha Sharma joins Federal Reserve panel studying AI’s impact on employment and productivity amid company restructuring.

The Federal Reserve appointed Xbox CEO Asha Sharma to a task force analyzing AI’s effects on jobs and productivity. Sharma’s inclusion follows Microsoft’s announcement of 3,200 layoffs at Xbox as part of a broader restructuring effort.

The Productivity and Jobs group, part of the Fed’s review of monetary policy tools, also includes venture capitalist Marc Andreessen and Stanford economist Charles I. Jones. The task force will assess how emerging technologies like AI may reshape economic output and labor markets.

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh noted the U.S. economy’s rapid transformation, emphasizing the need to evaluate whether current policy approaches remain effective. The panel’s findings could influence future monetary policy decisions amid growing debate over AI’s economic role.
