July FOMC minutes reveal policymakers may raise rates soon if inflation persists, aligning with market expectations.

US stock futures showed mixed movement early Thursday, with Dow Jones futures edging down 0.11% to 53,470, while S&P 500 futures slipped 0.06% to 7,720. Nasdaq 100 futures held steady near 29,520. The cautious trading followed the release of the Federal Reserve’s July meeting minutes, which indicated officials are leaning toward another rate hike if inflation fails to cool further.

The minutes revealed a slightly more hawkish tone than anticipated, though not enough to alter market pricing for a rate increase. Analysts noted that support for a July hike extended beyond the three formal dissenters, with the minutes stating ‘several participants’ favored a 25-basis-point increase, a stronger phrasing than the ‘a few participants’ used in June. This shift underscores broader backing for additional tightening.

Markets had already priced in at least one more rate hike by year-end, reflecting expectations of persistent inflation concerns among policymakers.
