The Ethereum-based fantasy trading card game will shut down next month after distributing over $23 million to players and influencers.
Fantasy Top, an Ethereum-based fantasy sports game using NFT trading cards of crypto influencers, will close at the end of June. The game paid out more than $20 million to players and $3.2 million to influencers since its launch two years ago.
The game tracked social media engagement metrics of crypto personalities, blending fantasy sports with blockchain technology. It gained traction as a viral consumer crypto application but faced sustainability challenges due to its trading card revenue model.
The firm cited unsustainable long-term economics, noting that trading volume from NFT playing cards failed to support ongoing operations. The game operated on the Ethereum layer-2 network Blast.
