German business sentiment improves more than expected in August, lifting the Euro against the Yen amid Japan’s fiscal concerns.

EUR/JPY climbed 0.15% to 185.85 on Tuesday, driven by stronger-than-expected German business sentiment. The IFO Business Climate Index rose to 88.8 in August, up from a revised 87.2 in July and above the 87.5 consensus forecast.

The survey’s components also exceeded expectations, with the Current Assessment Index at 88.5 and the Expectations Index at 89.1. The data signals improving economic sentiment in Germany, supporting the Euro. Meanwhile, the Yen remains under pressure due to Japan’s fiscal challenges and low interest rates.

Market intervention fears have limited further Yen selling, but persistent rate differentials and Japan’s debt burden continue to weigh on the currency.
