Unregulated crypto platforms face enforcement actions if operating without authorization after June 30 under new EU rules.

Crypto asset service providers in the EU must obtain MiCA licenses by June 30 or risk enforcement actions, German and Austrian regulators confirmed. Germany’s BaFin stated applications are under review but warned of potential measures for non-compliance, while Austria has already ended grandfathering provisions, requiring all exchanges to be licensed since December 2025.

Nine firms have secured licenses in Austria, though the FMA noted a significant volume of pending applications. Legal experts warned that firms without authorization after the deadline will operate unlawfully, with regulators empowered to halt services immediately.

The transition marks the end of national exemptions, standardizing crypto regulations across the EU under MiCA.
