Ethereum drops Poseidon for SHA or BLAKE hashes

Ethereum’s L1 cryptography roadmap is moving away from Poseidon to traditional hash functions such as SHA or BLAKE.

This shift is due to advances in binary-field SNARKs, which now allow traditional hashes to be proven efficiently.

The plan aims for a production-grade leanVM in 2027, followed by deployments across Ethereum’s consensus, data, and execution layers in 2028.
