The 36GWh-to-138GWh surge in European stationary storage demand by 2030 drives Eni’s new LFP plant in Brindisi.
Eni Storage Systems has started construction on a lithium-iron-phosphate battery plant in Brindisi, Italy, targeting the continent’s growing grid-storage market. The facility will produce battery energy storage systems to integrate renewable energy into the grid, aligning with Europe’s projected demand rise from 36GWh in 2025 to 138GWh by 2030.
The project repurposes part of a decommissioned Versalis industrial site and includes plans for a gigafactory to manufacture battery cells and modules. Eni’s joint venture with FIB aims to support decarbonization by combining renewable energy development with grid resilience.
Italy’s Minister of Enterprises and local officials attended the groundbreaking ceremony, underscoring the project’s strategic importance for the country’s energy transition and industrial growth.
