Billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller’s Duquesne Family Office initiated a position in Rhythm Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: RYTM) during the second quarter, signaling confidence in the biotech’s niche obesity treatments. Rhythm’s sole approved drug, Imcivree, addresses rare genetic disorders causing obesity, a segment not targeted by Eli Lilly (LLY) or Novo Nordisk (NVO).

Imcivree, approved in 2020, treats chronic weight management in patients with protein deficiencies like POMC, which disrupts hunger regulation. While LLY and NVO dominate the broader obesity market with blockbuster drugs like Wegovy and Zepbound, Rhythm’s focus on rare conditions presents a unique opportunity.

The move highlights growing interest in specialized obesity therapies, though Rhythm’s market remains limited compared to mass-market weight-loss drugs.
