The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 looked to extend their record-setting run on Wednesday, with futures pointing higher early in the session.
Dow futures climbed 172 points, or 0.3%, with S&P 500 futures gaining 0.4%
Nasdaq-100 futures were flat. Tuesday’s session was defined by broad gains driven by solid corporate earnings and comments from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggesting the U.S. and Iran could be nearing a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The S&P 500 notched a 1.8% advance, crossing above 7,700 for the first time ever, while the Dow surged more than 900 points to set yet another record close above 47,000.
Oil fell Tuesday following Bessent’s comments, though prices recovered slightly on Wednesday. WTI crude for September delivery gained roughly 0.7%, reaching $76.30 a barrel, while October Brent futures were trading 1.6% higher at $80.63. Mediators are working on a temporary fix for the Strait of Hormuz, though continued attacks on shipping and Iran’s insistence on collecting transit fees have introduced uncertainty, according to The Wall Street Journal.
